Located in Central Washington, Yakama Nation is part of a highly impacted community that Pacific Power serves through its incentive programs. After visiting Yakama Nation facilities and conducting an energy assessment, Pacific Power identified opportunities to improve visibility, safety and comfort through energy-efficient lighting upgrades.
Working together, Pacific Power, Yakama Nation and their selected Wattsmart® Business Vendor completed lighting improvements across 13 facilities, both indoors and outdoors. These upgrades created brighter, more functional spaces that support daily operations while enhancing security and comfort for the community.
Major facility upgrades:
- Commodity Food Program
- Village of Hope
What the energy assessment revealed:
- The Commodity Food Program warehouse relied on just three lighting panels for the entire space.
- Existing lights were dim, damaged or deteriorated.
- Some areas required flashlights to improve visibility.
- Pathways at the Village of Hope facility had little or inadequate lighting.
- The Village of Hope facility needed lighting upgrades both inside and outside of the main building.
The energy efficiency upgrades:
- Five new LED panels were installed in the Commodity Food Program facility to replace older inefficient lighting, delivering brighter, even lighting throughout the facility.
- New LED floodlights now illuminate the exterior of the main Village of Hope building, improving visibility for residents.
- Outdoor pathway lighting was added to enhance nighttime safety and peace of mind.
What the community is saying:
“I think lighting is just as important as water,” said Village of Hope Program Manager Jenece Howell. “If you don’t have lighting or power, then you can’t do the day-to-day things that you need lighting or power for.”
Yakama Nation’s estimated annual savings in 2025:
- 319,734 kWh saved
- $27,400 on utility bills
- $141,666 in incentives utilized
