How Wattsmart® Business is lighting the way for businesses just like yours!

Located in Central Washington, Yakama Nation is part of a highly impacted community that Pacific Power serves through its incentive programs. After visiting Yakama Nation facilities and conducting an energy assessment, Pacific Power identified opportunities to improve visibility, safety and comfort through energy-efficient lighting upgrades.

Working together, Pacific Power, Yakama Nation and their selected Wattsmart® Business Vendor completed lighting improvements across 13 facilities, both indoors and outdoors. These upgrades created brighter, more functional spaces that support daily operations while enhancing security and comfort for the community.

Major facility upgrades:

  • Commodity Food Program
  • Village of Hope

What the energy assessment revealed:

  • The Commodity Food Program warehouse relied on just three lighting panels for the entire space.
  • Existing lights were dim, damaged or deteriorated.
  • Some areas required flashlights to improve visibility.
  • Pathways at the Village of Hope facility had little or inadequate lighting.
  • The Village of Hope facility needed lighting upgrades both inside and outside of the main building.

The energy efficiency upgrades:

  • Five new LED panels were installed in the Commodity Food Program facility to replace older inefficient lighting, delivering brighter, even lighting throughout the facility.
  • New LED floodlights now illuminate the exterior of the main Village of Hope building, improving visibility for residents.
  • Outdoor pathway lighting was added to enhance nighttime safety and peace of mind.

What the community is saying:

“I think lighting is just as important as water,” said Village of Hope Program Manager Jenece Howell. “If you don’t have lighting or power, then you can’t do the day-to-day things that you need lighting or power for.”

Yakama Nation’s estimated annual savings in 2025:

  • 319,734 kWh saved
  • $27,400 on utility bills
  • $141,666 in incentives utilized

Take lighting retrofits to the next level with Advanced Networked Lighting Controls

Are you leveraging the benefits of Advanced Networked Lighting Controls for your customers’ projects? If you aren’t familiar with ANLC, these systems connect individual lighting fixtures together through a digital network which enables centralized management and automation to improve energy efficiency.

Key benefits of ANLC:

  1. Increased lifespan of new LED fixtures
  2. Reduced heat stress on LED fixtures
  3. Advanced control and customization
  4. Real-time monitoring and data analytics
  5. Improved energy savings – lowering energy bills

When you propose ANLC to your customers, you offer them an optimal solution to reduce energy consumption and, in most cases, improve their projects’ simple payback.

Let’s take a look at a recent California project where ANLC resulted in a faster return on investment and will provide operational savings to the customer for years to come. While presenting the savings calculations of switching to LEDs to the project’s facility director, the vendor learned that the expensive and timely process of maintenance was another factor that prompted the lighting upgrade. The vendor recognized an opportunity to provide expert guidance and proposed two options to the customer.

Although there were additional upfront costs associated with ANLC, there were also additional incentives . The facility director saw the value in the additional $3,300 annual savings and is extremely pleased with end result.
